Calling all beginners! Learn to sew a circle skirt with By Hand London

By-Hand-London-circle-skirt-630x472

So, as you may have noticed, here at By Hand HQ we kinda like sewing and believe wholeheartedly in making your own clothes. And we wanna spread the love! Which is why we decided it would be really fun to hold a beginners class for all those out there that want a handmade wardrobe, but don't really know where to start. Ummm, how about with a nice and summery circle skirt, taught to you by our good selves, Elisalex and Charlotte, in a place where they  just happen to serve a mean cocktail?! If this all sounds up your (or a friend's) street then here's a little more information:

Where?

The brand spanking new Stories Bar on Broadway Market (Hackey, London)

When?

Wednesday 12th June

11am - 3pm

How much is it and whaddya get?

£28

All machines , tools and supplies provided. You'll get 3m of this lovely drapey cerise fabric, a By Hand London tote bag, hook and eye, invisible zip, hand sewing needle and thread, ribbon trim and one of our woven labels.

circle skirt class

What will I learn?

You will learn how to make a half circle skirt, which is a really feminine, flattering shape and a style which can form the basis of a million different outfits. Making the skirt we'll also cover some nerdier bits and pieces, so that you'll have some added sewing skills under your belt as well. Such as: how to make a waistband, tape hem a skirt, blind stitch and insert an invisible zipper.

What do you mean by beginner?

Good question! We mean someone who does know their way around a sewing machine. Maybe you've made a couple of little projects already, a tote bag or a pillowcase perhaps? But you really just want to get into making clothes and are looking for a place to start.

*Swoon* this sounds so great! Where do I sign up?

This sounds like so much fun! Please do more if these, but give a little advance warning so I can plan a trip from Seattle, USA! Sewing in a bar! Genius!

We’ve got more classes coming soon – are you based in London? We’ve got something coming up end of July and definitely more… watch this space for announcements!
