FAQs

Downloading & printing PDF patterns

How do I print a PDF pattern? Click here to read our detailed blog post on how to download and print your PDF pattern at home, or at a copyshop.

What do I do if I lose a PDF pattern and can't find the old link in my emails? Do I have to buy it again? If you can find proof of purchase - the confirmation email, or proof of the transaction in your bank statements - then we will happily send over the pattern files you have lost. Unfortunately we are unable to replace patterns without proof of purchase, and we thank you for your understanding on this.

Will automatically receive an update when size ranges are extended? Yes! If you previously bought the PDF pattern, your email should automatically get the link to download the newly updated pattern for free. If you don’t get this email, or if you previously purchased a paper pattern, please drop us an email with proof of purchase and we’ll send over the new files :)

Do your PDF patterns have layers? Most of them, but not all - we are in an ongoing process of updating older patterns, but this will take time and we really appreciate your patience.

Returns & exchanges

What is your returns policy? We cannot offer refunds or exchanges on any of our digital products - PDF sewing patterns, webinars, eBooks etc. If you have purchased a physical copy of my book, Made To Measure, and would like to return it within 30 days of purchase in an unused, resaleable condition, please send us an email to help@byhandlondon.com.

Patterns

Is seam allowance included in your patterns? Yes indeed! We include the standard ⅝” or 15mm to all our patterns, and if the seam allowance is different in certain places (collars or hems for example), it will be clearly stated in the sewing instructions.

What cup size do you draft for? Our smaller size range is drafted to a dressmakers’ B cup (full bust is 2” larger than high bust), and our larger size range is drafted to a dressmakers’ D cup (full bust is 4” larger than high bust). If the pattern in question has only one size range available, it will be the smaller B cup block.

What size blocks do you use to draft your patterns? The block we use for our smaller size range is a UK 8 and the block we use for our larger size range is a UK 22.

Can I use your patterns to make garments to sell? No, our patterns are intended for your own personal sewing pleasure, or for making gifts for others. Commercial use of our patterns is strictly prohibited.

I think I’ve spotted an error in one of your patterns… Despite checking our patterns and instructions what feels like 50 million times ;) we sometimes miss the odd typo or mistake. Please start by checking the pattern errata page to see if it’s something we’ve already spotted and clarified. If it’s not there, please alert us via email - help@byhandlondon.com.
