The Kim Dress - Your makes!

Warning! This post is long and extremely picture heavy, chock-full of droolsome Kim dresses that will have you frantically pinning as if your life depended on it. We cannot accept responsibility for any impulse fabric buys that result from reading this post!

Your Kims

One of the first Kims we spotted in the wild, Sara's crisp month's of the year fabric gives an unexpected edge to an otherwise über feminine dress.

Now, we here at BHL are a fairly multi-lingual bunch, but alas, not one of us speaks French particularly well. No matter, Armide's pictures are lovely enough to speak for themselves, and we're pretty sure that "j’ai eu un coup de cœur" is a compliment, right?!

*

For us, the highest of praise is when you lovely lot choose to wear frocks you've made from our patterns on special occasions. Sophie's cherry red jacquard Christmas Kim has almost gotten us looking forward to Winter again. Almost...

*

There was never any doubt in anyone's mind that the gathered skirted Kim was practically made for Marie and her pretty vintage style. And this zoo-print Liberty lawn beauty with lavender lining certainly lived up to our expectations!

*

Sewist and winner of our most recent fabric design competition, Alice has made multiple Kims that we know of, but suckers for space that we are, this galaxy print number is our most favourite.

*

Kim hacks

We are all over BHL pattern tester Rachel's two-tone triple crepe jumpsuit, which she made by pairing the Kim bodice with the trews of Simplicity 4044 - a perfectly subtle nod to the current 70s trend.

*

This eye-catching Kim wrap skirt care of Carly in Stitches only goes to show the versatility of sewing patterns - if you can dream it, you can make it!

*

We love how Caroline has teamed the Kim bodice with a pretty quarter circle skirt and the side seam pockets from Colette's Hazel Dress. Practical chic, at its best.

*

Kims from our testers

And last, but most certainly not least, we'd like to say a huge and resounding THANK YOU to all of our wonderfully talented pattern testers! We hail your stitching finesse, your typo-tracking eagle eyes, and your enduring patience and support.

Blonde bombshell Mary does perfectly girly with her signature sassy edge in teal floral and slick black accessories.

*

We love a bit of synchronised matchy-matchy, and Jenny's scarlett lips-dress-shoes combo is ladylike elegance personified!

*

Fiona's sequin and velvet cocktail Kim was without a doubt the show stopper at last years Sewist Christmas Party! So stunning in fact, that it inspired me to dream up my very own velvet Flora Dress with sequin straps...

*

Looking like a Spring Siren in this full skirted floral Kim, it's the extra little details Kelli has added that make this dress really special, we think - practical side seam pockets, a nifty waistline stay and ribbons to keep bra straps at bay!

*

As to be expected of Roisin and her amazing production line approach to sewing dresses, this may be the first, but definitely not the only Kim to be found in the Dolly Clackett closet!

*

We can always rely on Marcy to pull out all the stops! Damask lurex, burnout velvet and ummm, 2" shaved off the already obscene hemline?? It works.

*

Hot to trot yet still sweet and super feminine, Dixie does us proud in her slinky wrap dress.

*

It seems that Kim likes to bring out a stitcher's wild side - especially when it comes to fabric choices! But one thing is for sure, and Julie's mustard velvet is no exception...... Kim + outlandish fabric = sure fire WIN!

*

Ethereal beauty Emily chose a fittingly tropical fabric for her Kim, which will hopefully see a lot of wear as the days get warmer - can you believe she braved the December chill to take the picture above?! Dedicated madness - we love it!
