A shneaky peek and your help please!

Victoria Blazer

Having spent recent months at By Hand HQ armed with some tough looking pattern cutting tools, covered in reams of paper and lengths of thread, we're pretty far on our way to having a new pattern to share with you soon. The photo above is a little shneaky peak at our spring baby, the Victoria Blazer! You can't see so much of her face here, but Victoria came on board pretty soon after the start, as pattern & design assistant - and general right hand woman (avid readers of our blog may remember her larking about with us on our very first photo shoot). She designed this blazer and it's turned out very nice indeed, we think. They're now off to our testing panel, so hopefully they'll agree!

And here's where we need your help. We really want to hear from those of you who have made the Charlotte Skirt and/or the Elisalex Dress patterns and think that there are things we should add, take out or quite simply change completely (for example, we've noticed a lot of you have already asked for finished garment measurements and metric conversions).  We really want to make our packaging and instructions the best they could be, which basically means... making it how you want it! So, ladies, let us know. Holla at us in the comments below and give us some food for thought.

Thank yooouuuu!

Thanks!! Rest assures that for future patterns, and all reprints of the Elisalex & Charlotte, we will have measurements in both metric and imperial, finished garment measurements and a clearer indication that 5/8" seam allowance is indeed included! We’re so excited about the forthcoming patterns, and we really think they’re even better than the first two – and largely because of all the amazing and helpful feedback we’ve received! Thanks!!

Finally started my elisalex, I love that you have put the bodice, the skirt and the sleeves in different sheets! Much easier when I trace the pattern. But I had to search a while before I found out if the seamallowance was included. I also wish you would write down the hip measurmens (found them under the Charlotte skirt, but nice to have them with the dress. Last, I would hav liked to have the metric measurements given. They don’t have to be in the pattern, but if you put them on your website it would save me some time with the converter-calculator.

    Firstly, a blazer – lovely!
Idea – it is awesome that you list the fabric requirements/notions on the website so we can fabric shop while we wait for our patterns to arrive. Could you perhaps show the pattern drawing so we know which view is which too??

Weeee, glad to hear you’re excited about the blazer! We would absolutely love to hear your feedback about our patterns, but I cant seem to find your message in our website contact form inbox. Did you send it there? If you wouldn’t mind sending it again, hit me up at: charlotte@byhandlondon.com Thanks!

PS the blazer’s not scary, promise!

Kirsty, you read our minds! Post sewalong, we were wondering whether we should also be putting all the’how to adjust your pattern to your shape’ tips into the actual printed goods. After all, that’s a huge part of making your own clothes. Great to hear you think so too! Thanks so much for your feedback.

Very excited by the idea of a blazer! Re the Charlotte pattern, all good from me. I think your tutorials on line are great and really back up the printed pattern. Might be worth, mentioning how you do the hip adjustments (both for hippy girls and not so hippy girls) in the book as well on online?

Quite excited that you are doing a blazer – potentially a lot more complex than the skirt and dress you have done so far… :)
