Kathryn - Sew us yours!

Second up in our Sew us yours! series, and the first to show off her Elisalex dress we have Kathryn, who's blog Yes I Like That is not only a droolsome smӧrgåsbord of Kathryn's sewing projects, but an essential read for a glimpse into creative London life.

The pattern - The Elisalex Dress

Tell us a bit about the fabric you chose... did your finished dress live up to how you had imagined it?

My fabric is a red ponte knit. I keep seeing this fabric used on the high-street and I wanted to try and recreate a similar princess-seamed skater dress I saw on ASOS. The finished dress is actually a lot nicer than I'd imagined! I love the way the back dips into a V, and the half-circle skirt is satisfying swishy.

Would you make this pattern again? If so, how...?

I'd definitely make the Elisalex dress again, I want to try the whole thing with the skirt included! I'm looking for a superluxe brocade to make a party dress.

What say you - to toile or not to toile??

I didn't bother making a toile as this was a spur of the moment idea, but I did tissue-fit the pattern as I usually do. Using stretchy fabric lets you get away with a lot. The princess seams on this pattern are great as they're so easy to adjust when you're sewing.

Well, we hadn't even thought about making up an Elisalex dress in a knit fabric... Thanks to you, Kathryn, that's one more thing on our To Stitch List!! As if we didn't have enough to sew already... Thank you so much for taking part, and needless to say we can't WAIT to see that brocade version!

*You don’t have to have a blog to Sew us yours! If you’d like us to feature what you’ve made using a By Hand London sewing pattern, get in touch!! The thrill of seeing our patterns made up and out in the wild will never get old!*
